Cape Town born Tracey began playing piano at the age of six,
receiving formal musical education in high school, where she
majored in music on both standard and higher grades. Tracey
studied music (flute and piano) at the University of Cape
Town before turning her hand to Pop/Rock music.
She joined her first band in 1981 and has been a
professional musician since then. In 1985 her song-writing
capabilities and rich, distinctive vocals caught the
attention of record producers Tully McCully and Kevin
Shirley respectively, and both seven singles received
extensive airplay on radio and television. Her female duo,
“Cat” enjoyed much success in the ‘80’s, playing a six-
month residency at The Ambassador Hotel in Bantry Bay.
Her solo career from 1986-2003 has provided her with the
opportunity to travel to China on two occasions, performing
in Shanghai and Wenzhou on 3 month residency contracts in
Five Star Hotels, being O’Malley’s Irish Pub and Grill in
the Old French Concession district in Shanghai (2001) and
The Victoria Grand Hotel in Wenzhou (2002) as well as
completing extended residency contracts all over South
Africa; the prestigious Fancourt Golf Estate (2000) in
George and the highly popular Club Mykonos (1998/1999/2000)
in Langebaan being amongst the most recent. Over the 23
years her career spans, she has worked in both Johannesburg
and Cape Town extensively. In November 2003 she joined the
five-piece dance-band Upstart, to fulfil a four-month
contract in the Middle East, at The Intercontinental,
Muscat, in Oman.
Since her return, Tracey has performed at The 12 Apostles
Hotel, both in the Azure Restaurant and the elegant Leopard
Room Bar, as well as at The Bay Hotel’s Tides Restaurant in
Camps Bay and The Victoria and Alfred Hotel in The
Waterfront.
Her distinctive “live” sound, comprising electric piano and
vocals and enhanced by the subtle use of a rhythm unit, is
equally at home in an intimate lounge/bar setting as in a
busy restaurant and she has performed at numerous diverse
functions, her most unusual to date being at a “Chef’s
Table” function, where she played to a table of guests in a
prominent local Hotel’s kitchen!
Tracey’s extensive, select and versatile repertoire ensures
an evening of pleasant, easy listening.
