As one of Cape Town’s busiest and liveliest bands, Tuxedo’s success is simple: “give the guests what they want to hear.”

So if you are in a romantic mood for light jazz, need a nostalgic trip down memory lane or want to boogie to the latest chart toppers, then Tuxedo is your band. The success of the evening’s performance rests on the shoulders of front man Stavro Michel, and who better to trust this important task to than this ex-Piggies DJ. Stavro cut his teeth spinning discs at some of the more famous clubs in and around Cape Town and certainly knows how to get and keep a crowd on the floor. Tuxedo’s energy is based on their tried and trusted “Its party time” formula so whilst they play an ever-changing selection of chart toppers, you will instantly recognize just about every song that they play. Performed with their own irresistible beat and sound, its guaranteed to get you up and dancing.

Tuxedo is a six piece band that consists of Stavro Michel on lead vocals and lead guitar, Sharon Clifton on lead vocals and guitar, Annie Hvidsten on vocals and bass guitar, Peter Hunt on keyboards, Gary Horne on sax, flute and percussion and Malcolm Cassisa on drums and percussion.

They are all accomplished musicians having played the South African circuit in a variety of successful bands. Everyone shares the vocal spotlight with strong harmonies evident throughout.

Their specialty is wedding functions both Christian and Jewish, where they are well known for their interpretation of traditional Jewish dancing … the Horas. The band also enjoys a fair share of the Corporate market, where they are professionally equipped to perform at any corporate function, be it a new product launch, an Annual conference, an official opening or a good old-fashioned end of year xmas function.

Their winning formula ensures a busy schedule and year-in and year-out the band has been able to add to an impressive list of satisfied clients such as the J&B Fashion Stakes, The J&B Met, Shoprite Checkers Woman of the Year Awards, Caltex, Irvin & Johnson, Standard Bank, Pam Golding Properties, Vodacom, Ernst & Young, Pick n Pay, Wooltru Group, Murray and Roberts, to name but a few.

Tuxedo’s professionalism goes beyond their performance. One aspect of which is the meeting that they conduct with their client sometime before the performance.

Stavro says “this meeting is a very important one where all facets of the function are discussed. Over the years we have developed a winning formula which we know will create a vibey atmosphere … timing and pace are the most important factors and we have to understand when certain events take place during the function and where the band must be placed in order to guarantee optimum performance”
